I learned something new this weekend as I created floral beauties for the winter white bridal party. I learned about stock flower. This beauty has a wonderful fragrance and is a good “filler” in arrangements, but I’ve never used it in bridal work. Well, as it turned out, the roses I got from the flower market were just a little too cream…, so I needed something with a LOT of white in the bride’s bouquet and all of her attendant bouquets too. Stock saved the day. This flower seems delicate, but it is quite resilient in bridal work. The bottom blooms can be plucked and the tops too – if the look seems out of place to you. The texture just works with callas and roses and the wonderful layering with alstromeria too.

Oh, and the boutenneires were amazing – it is always a risk to use hydrangea in bouts or corsages, but these were a great compliment to the small roses and the back splash of eucyalptus leaves.

I always learn something when working on wedding flowers. It was a joy and a challenge at the same time.

Manzanita Branches go through sky

 During our Seattle winters, we are blessed with some beautiful days.  Last week, we have one of those rare appearances.  The clear blue sky was a great back drop to shoot these manzanita branch urn arrangements.  These could be the perfect frame for a wedding ceremony, an oh-naturalle bridal party or a French 75 party. 

Lollie will be using these in an wedding this month, but I will add floating orchids.  Hopefully this upcoming event will be held a winter day with beautiful blue sky too!

Last month I had the joy of spending an afternoon with a friend and her son. We had lunch and caught up on the details of life. My friend’s son was quite curious about the items in my purse, so he started digging. Sure enough, he found a new mirror (Christmas gift – thanks Kathy) and came up with all sorts of “looks” for the inside and outside of the mirror.  This picture reminds me that sometimes we have to look at an object backwards and inside out to really let the creative juices flow.  Try it today…  You might even chuckle and laugh!
